The Western Canadian edition of CoexisDance, inspired by the performance series curated and pioneered in Toronto by the late Colin Anthony in 2006 with the format ‘no more than two dancers, no more than two musicians, at least one of each’ has landed in Vancouver’s Scotiabank Dance Centre.

Curator Olivia C. Davies says: “The format can encompass multiple interpretations of improvisational scores that are nurtured through short creation residencies for each artist to get to know one another and foster trust prior to performance.” For this edition, the call went out to musicians who create experimental and electro-acoustic compositions, and emerging to mid-career dance artists. Davies initiated the first Western edition in December 2018 as part of her season-wide Dance Centre residency.
